Israel Experiencing a Winter Heat Wave

Picture: Haaretz.com

A winter heat wave strikes Israel while Europe has been experiencing cold temperatures. A cold front from the North Pole is headed south toward Western Europe. Ahead of the front, warm air has come in from the deserts in the south. The temperature has risen to 86 F (30 C). Although this falls short of a record high for the season, this has been the longest warm period in February in almost 40 years. Average temperatures for the winter months of Israel are usually 41-65 F (5-18 C).

Many people are taking advantage of the warm temperatures and heading to the beach for a rare dip in the water in the middle of winter. Israel has seen warm Februaries that ended with very cold and rainy days, so the winter is far from over.
